Product novelties
South African standard (SABS):
A minor change has also been implemented here: The length of the insulation on the pins has been slightly shortened. TALLER has already implemented this change on the respective plug inserts. All our SABS inserts meet the requirements of the new standard.
Brazilian standard:
The Brazilian standard has already been effective for some time. However, the according plugs are provisionally being used with both full pins and partially insulated pins. The point of time as of which only the partially insulated version is permitted has not yet been defi ned. In order to be on the safe side and to avoid possible conversions at a later date, we recommend using the correct inserts with partially insulated pins. With the B18.. family of plug inserts, we cover both versions.
New VDE Standard VDE 0620-1:2010-02 for plugs and sockets, Appendix D: Requirements for crimps:
The new crimp regulations have the aim of ensuring process-safe crimping. Crimp connections „must have suffi cient electrical and mechanical properties“ (EN 60352-2).
The crimping process and the crimping must be documented and traceable at any time. Prior to series production, a process capability of the implemented tool must be carried out on at least 50 test samples. At the same time, the following criteria have to be documented (lower and upper limits):

- Crimp height or
- Removal force or
- Voltage drop of the crimp connection

In the event of approval testing (for example, by VDE-TCI), all crimp connections have to be photographically documented from 3 sides. Or more accurately: VDE takes photos of the side view, the top view and a perspective view and checks during manufacturing audits whether the crimping of the submitted samples and that of production are identical. Adhering to this regulation, the quality of the crimping takes on a much higher value than was previously the case. Bad crimps can lead to overheating and risk of fi re. Thus, the introduction of the new regulations is an important step towards implementing a high and secure standard quality. The detailed text can be found in VDE 0620-1:2010-02, Appendix D.
TALLER has been advocating the gastight crimping philosophy for years and thus has already fulfi lled the new regulations for many years. Our BASICcrimp, ECOcrimp and PROcrimpline crimping machines are state-of-theart. With our machines, you will have no problems fulfi lling the crimping regulations.

Swiss standard (SEV 6233-2 / 6234-2: 2009 Type 11, 2-pin and 3-pin):
The change to the standard has fi nally been implemented and became effectice as from December 1st, 2009. The changeover period for products that are already authorised has been agreed on to last until the end of 2012. The new plugs have partially insulated pins as is already usual in other countries. TALLER is working under high pressure on the development of the plug inserts in accordance with the new Swiss standard. Approvals in accordance with the old standard will be valid until 2012 at the latest. Thus, it is recommended to immediately have your power cords approved in accordance with the new standard. We are happy to send you the TALLER article description, along with samples of the new two and three pin plug inserts.
